National Youth HIV/AIDS Awareness Day 4/10.

National Youth HIV/AIDS Awareness Day shines a spotlight on the unique challenges young people face in the fight against HIV, especially youth of color and LGBTQ+ youth. This day is to urge policy makers and the public to take action against the HIV epidemic which disproportionately affects youth. To take action, organized by  Advocates for Youth. To focus on prevention and to host events that tell the stories of those affected by HIV.

The most recent CDC data shows that as of 2021, 19% of those newly infected with HIV were people aged 13-24. Condom use for sexually active young people decreased from 60% to 52%.

The CDS encourages schools to teach students the basics about HIV and other STIs, promote communication between youth and their parents and families and supporting student access to confidential HIV counseling and testing services.

We believe in a future where every generation, young or old, is supported in their sexual health journey. Let’s continue to uplift youth voices, expand access to testing and prevention, and break the stigma around HIV.

Together, we can build an AIDS-free future.
