š October 11 ā National Coming Out Day is an annual reminder that the act of living openly is itself a powerful form of resistance. The day, first observed in 1988, was established to help break the silence around LGBTQ+ identities and to affirm that ācoming outā remains a deeply personal, meaningful step. Wikipedia+2HRC+2
In an era where LGBTQ+ rights face renewed challengesāfrom anti-LGBTQ legislation sweeping multiple states to culture wars over school curriculaāvisibility matters now more than ever. Many people are being pressured to hide parts of themselves, and the courage to live openly sends ripples of hope and change. HRC+1
At LGBT Senior Housing and Care, we celebrate and uplift the stories of elders who came out in times less forgiving, and we stand firmly with those doing so today. We believe every person deserves to live authenticallyāwithout fear, shame, or invisibility. Our mission: to create safe, affirming environments where queer elders can age with dignity, support, and community.
š This National Coming Out Day, join us by:
ā Sharing your coming-out story (or what being āoutā means to you)
ā Lending your voice to support LGBTQ+ protections in your state or city
ā Reaching out to someone in your life with compassion, openness, and solidarity
Because when one person comes out, hundreds more begin to see themselves. Letās continue to build spaces where every queer voice is heardāpast, present, and future.
