National Coming out Day - October 11th

ree

🌈 October 11 — National Coming Out Day is an annual reminder that the act of living openly is itself a powerful form of resistance. The day, first observed in 1988, was established to help break the silence around LGBTQ+ identities and to affirm that ā€œcoming outā€ remains a deeply personal, meaningful step. Wikipedia+2HRC+2

In an era where LGBTQ+ rights face renewed challenges—from anti-LGBTQ legislation sweeping multiple states to culture wars over school curricula—visibility matters now more than ever. Many people are being pressured to hide parts of themselves, and the courage to live openly sends ripples of hope and change. HRC+1

At LGBT Senior Housing and Care, we celebrate and uplift the stories of elders who came out in times less forgiving, and we stand firmly with those doing so today. We believe every person deserves to live authentically—without fear, shame, or invisibility. Our mission: to create safe, affirming environments where queer elders can age with dignity, support, and community.

šŸ“Œ This National Coming Out Day, join us by:

ā— Sharing your coming-out story (or what being ā€œoutā€ means to you)

ā— Lending your voice to support LGBTQ+ protections in your state or city

ā— Reaching out to someone in your life with compassion, openness, and solidarity

Because when one person comes out, hundreds more begin to see themselves. Let’s continue to build spaces where every queer voice is heard—past, present, and future.
