Ally week and Banned Books week

October 5th - 11th:

📚 Ally Week & Banned Books Week call us to reflect on the power of voice, visibility, and support in the face of censorship and exclusion.

During Ally Week, we affirm that being an ally is more than a label—it’s action. It means standing with LGBTQ+ individuals, listening deeply, calling out harassment, and creating safer spaces in every community. GLSEN+2Wikipedia+2

Concurrently, Banned Books Week (Oct 5–11, 2025) reminds us that intellectual freedom is under threat. This year’s theme, “Censorship Is So 1984. Read for Your Rights,” underscores how attempts to suppress LGBTQ+ stories are not just about literature—they are about erasing identities and silencing marginalized communities. ALA+1

In recent months, we’ve watched schools and districts quietly remove LGBTQ+-themed works from shelves—books that hold mirror stories, histories, and voices often denied elsewhere. Houston Chronicle+2AP News+2

At LGBT Senior Housing and Care, we believe that stories sustain us—especially for LGBTQ+ elders whose narratives risk being pushed to the margins. We commit to preserving queer literary heritage, intergenerational storytelling, and enabling safe spaces where all voices are heard.

Join us this week in:

● Amplifying LGBTQ+ authors and books under threat

● Sharing why representation matters—especially to elders who’ve lived through eras of silence

● Learning about allyship as a daily practice, not a one-time act

Let’s stand together—across generations, across identities—against censorship and for visibility, dignity, and solidarity. 🌈
