Many important Queer women have shaped herstory with their activism in both the queer and women’s space. Women such as Marsha P. Johnson, black and transgender and Sylvia Rivers, a Latina and trans activist was co-founder of STAR, were leaders in the response to the Stonewall raid and the subsequent marches and reforms. Jame Addams was a well know social reformer and social worker who founded Hull House. Eleanor Roosevelt was the first US First Lady who had a 30-year relationship with a woman. Gladys Bentley a blues singer, Josephine Baker a singer and dancer who was a civil rights activist were members of the queer community and many more women both in and out of the closet worked on behalf of women’s rights.
