🧡 November 8 marks Intersex Day of Solidarity (also known as Intersex Day of Remembrance) — a day for honoring intersex individuals, remembering those whose lives were impacted by forced medical interventions or stigma, and affirming the ongoing struggle for bodily autonomy and human rights. In recent years, global momentum has grown: the United Nations Human Rights Council adopted its first resolution protecting intersex people’s rights, which included safeguards against non‑consensual surgeries and urged nations to uphold their dignity and health. Reuters Yet, discrimination remains pervasive—studies show that intersex persons face disproportionately high rates of stigma, medical neglect, and invisibility. Them+1
At LGBT Senior Housing and Care, we stand in solidarity with intersex elders—many of whom have lived through eras of silence, medical decision‑making without their consent, and social erasure. Our mission is to build affirming communities where intersex identities are respected, supported, and celebrated throughout the lifespan.
On this Intersex Day of Solidarity, let’s:
● Acknowledge the courage of intersex ancestors and elders whose stories often go untold
● Advocate for healthcare and housing systems that honour autonomy, dignity, and informed consent
● Educate our networks on intersex inclusivity, terminology, and the unique lived experiences of intersex people
● Raise visibility and expand space for intersex voices across generations
Together, we affirm that all bodies are valid, all identities worthy of support, and all elders deserving of respect. 🧡 #IntersexDayOfSolidarity #IntersexVisibility #LGBTSeniorHousing #QueerEldersMatter #BodilyAutonomy
